Another week, another player confirmed for the second edition of the Millennium Estoril Open. This Monday, world no. 19 Gilles Simon was confirmed by the tournament’s organization and joins João Sousa and Nick Kyrgios in the main draw.
After a short stay in Portugal in the year of 2009, when he had a match point and lost to Albert Montanes (future champion) in the quarter-finals of the “old” Estoril Open as the first seeded player, and 2011, Simon will travel to the portuguese Riviera for the second time, this year to play the new tournament at Clube de Ténis do Estoril.
In the official statement issued to the media, tournament director João Zilhão reacted saying Gilles Simon is “a special player that we’ve been following for a while; he’s considered one of the brains of the tour and an opinion leader”, while the frenchmand said he’s “very motivated to meet and play at CT Estoril, in the heart of Estoril — I’ve heard wonderful things about it.”
Earlier this month, Nick Kyrgios was also confirmed for the second edition of the Millennium Estoril Open. This week, the aussie player won his first title, beating Marin Cilic in Marseille.
